Privacy Policy for VocabuDaily

Last Updated: July 29, 2026

VocabuDaily is a free, open-source word-of-the-day app. This policy explains what limited data is collected when you use the app and how it is used.

Information We Collect

Diagnostic Data

VocabuDaily may collect anonymous crash reports and basic usage diagnostics through the Expo platform (the framework the app is built on). This data helps identify and fix bugs. It does not include any personally identifiable information.

Push Notification Tokens

If you opt in to daily word notifications, Apple generates a device token that is used solely to deliver notifications to your device. This token is managed by Apple’s Push Notification service (APNs) and is not stored on any VocabuDaily server.

Anonymous App Identifier

So that your saved words can be stored and retrieved, the app creates an anonymous identifier the first time it launches — a random value generated by our database provider, Supabase. It is not linked to your name, email address, Apple ID, or any device identifier, and it is not used for advertising or tracking. It is stored on your device and belongs to that installation of the app.

Saved Words

When you save a word, the app records that anonymous identifier alongside the word you saved. That list — the words and when you saved them — is the only content stored on our server. It is visible to your installation of the app and to nobody else.

Word of the Day Requests

The app fetches each day’s word from our own Supabase database using a public, read-only key. These requests are not tied to your saved-words identifier.

On-Device Only

Your streak and your notification preferences are stored on your device and are never sent anywhere.

Information We Do NOT Collect

Third-Party Services

VocabuDaily relies on the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

Service Purpose Privacy Policy
Supabase Word database and saved-words storage supabase.com/privacy
Expo App framework & diagnostics expo.dev/privacy
Apple APNs Push notification delivery apple.com/privacy

Deleting Your Data

The Clear button on the Saved tab permanently deletes every word you have saved. Removing an individual word deletes that record too.

Deleting the app removes the anonymous identifier from your device. Any saved words you had not cleared remain in the database but are no longer reachable by you or anyone else, and they contain nothing about you beyond which words were saved.

Data Retention

Saved words are kept until you delete them, either individually or with the Clear button. Crash and diagnostic data collected through Expo is subject to Expo’s retention policies (typically 90 days).

Children’s Privacy

VocabuDaily does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The app displays advanced vocabulary, which may occasionally include mature words.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
